Men's Basketball Falls at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--The University of Maine men's basketball team fell at Notre Dame by the score of 97-72 on Monday evening at the Purcell Pavilion. Maine fell to 2-2 on the year while Notre Dame is now 4-0. Maine was led by Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) who had 16 points and five assists.
The Fighting Irish took a 9-4 lead before Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine) made a nice move to the bucket and put it in off glass to make it a three-point game.
After an Irish bucket, Barnies canned a deep three to make it 11-9. The Irish went on a run and would take a 19-9 lead just over five minutes into the game.
The Irish would expand the lead to 33-18 with under eight minutes left in the first half. McLemore would cut the lead to 13 on a jumper coming out of the media timeout.
Notre Dame would go on a run, but a Malachi Peay (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three-pointer at the buzzer made it 52-34 at halftime.
Barnies led Maine with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and three rebounds while McLemore added seven points and a pair of assists.
Maine shot 51.7 percent in the first half while Notre Dame shot 59.1 percent. The Irish had 20 free throw attempts, making 18 while the Black Bears went 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
A Raheem Singleton (Boston, Mass.) three-pointer four minutes into the second half made it 63-48, but Maine could not get any closer.
Barnies finished with 15 points and five rebounds while Singleton added 12 points.
Maine shot 48.4 percent from the field while Notre Dame shot 57.7 percent. Notre Dame grabbed 36 rebounds while Maine notched 21.
Tim Abromaitis led Notre Dame with 26 points.
