McCormick Stepenson is entering his fourth season with the Black Bears, where he will serve as the tight ends coach for the third-straight season and the recruiting coordinator for the second-straight season. He spent his first season in 2023 as the offensive quality control coach and video coordinator.
In 2026, the tight end core of the Black Bears recorded three touchdowns, one by Elijah Smalls, one by Jake V. Kucera and one by Eli Mahan. The four tight ends for the Black Bears had 26 catches for 245 yards.
During the 2023 season, Stephenson assisted the offensive as a quality control coach where he assisted closely with the offensive line and daily defensive scout team meetings. Stephenson also executed the scout team defense during practice sessions.
Prior to joining the Maine staff, Stephenson spent six seasons as a utility coach at Minnesota State University. While at Minnesota State, Stephenson served in various roles including tight ends coach, scout defense coach, running backs coach, kicking coach, film operations coordinator, assistant offensive line coach, interim wide receivers coach, and assistant running backs coach. Minnesota State enjoyed great success during Stephenson's tenure included a pair of NSIC outright championships, two NSIC co-championships, and four NCAA Division-II postseason berths.
Stephenson earned his bachelor of science in sports management from Minnesota State University in 2020 before obtaining his masters of science in sport management in 2022.
