Alex Kurtz enters his first season as the Director of Player Development at the University of Maine in 2026-27.
Kurtz comes to Maine with more than 10 years of coaching and player development experience. Since 2021, he has served as the owner and operator of Alex Kurtz Hockey, working with players at all levels on individual skill development, hockey intelligence and overall performance. Most recently, Kurtz served as an assistant coach, skills coach and video analyst at Bowdoin College during the 2025-26 season. He has also served as an assistant coach with the North Yarmouth Academy girls varsity hockey program since 2024 and previously served as an assistant coach with the North Yarmouth Academy boys varsity team from 2016-18.
Kurtz was a skills and video analysis coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology from 2020-23 and has held multiple roles with Casco Bay Youth Hockey, including Co-Director of Skills and Video Analysis and head coach of the U14 Tier II team. Under his leadership, the program qualified for the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships twice. Earlier in his career, Kurtz was a lead instructor and skills coach with Stride Envy Hockey.
Kurtz played junior hockey with the New England Wolves of the Eastern Hockey League before playing one season at the University of Southern Maine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies with a minor in Athletic Coaching from Southern Maine in 2018.
