Alex Kurtz enters his first season as the Director of Player Development at the University of Maine in 2026-27.
Kurtz comes to Maine with more than 10 years of player development experience. He spent the last five years as the owner and operator of Alex Kurtz Hockey, where he worked with players at all levels on individual skill development, hockey intelligence and overall performance. During the 2025-26 season, Kurtz served as an assistant coach at Bowdoin College. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach and director of player development at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Kurtz's experience also includes serving as a player development and video analysis coach for Stride Envy Hockey and as the Player Development Director for Casco Bay Youth Hockey.
Kurtz played junior hockey with the New England Wolves of the Eastern Hockey League before playing one season at the University of Southern Maine. The Yarmouth, Maine native earned a degree in Communication and Media Studies from Southern Maine in 2019.
