Grant Standbrook Fund/Savage Challenge

The Grant Standbrook Maine Hockey Forever Fund:

Grant Standbrook and Red Gendron Coach Red Gendron, Men's Ice Hockey, and other generous donors established the Grant Standbrook Maine Hockey Forever Fund in 2014 at the University of Maine Foundation to honor a friend and long-time former coach, and to engage former players and coaches in supporting Black Bear hockey. Coach Gendron is contributing generously to the Standbrook Fund on an annual basis. His gifts, and others like it, will help UMaine meet the Savage Challenge, establishing a generous endowment for UMaine Hockey.

Tom ’68 and Sally Savage created the Savage Challenge in October 2014 to match endowment gifts from former UMaine Hockey players and coaches. The Savage Challenge and Grant Standbrook Maine Hockey Forever Fund are examples of two initiatives to help build the endowment for UMaine Hockey.

The Savage Challenge:

In October, 2014 Tom Savage ’68 and his wife Sally announced their intention to create a five-year,
$1 million challenge grant to match gifts from UMaine hockey alumni and coaches.

The $1 million “Savage Challenge” will match new gifts to the “Grant Standbrook Forever Fund” and other existing and new hockey endowments, with the goal of raising at least $5 million in endowed funds to support UMaine hockey. All gifts to benefit the UMaine hockey endowment will be held by the
University of Maine Foundation.
