Preview: Maine heads to BU for single conference contest

The Black Bears and Terriers will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.

ORONO, Maine – The #18 University of Maine men's ice hockey team will travel to Boston this weekend for a single game against Boston University on Friday night at Agganis Arena.
 
Puck drop between the Black Bears and Terriers is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.

The Hockey East tilt will air live on NESN and be available for streaming on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet. The game can also be listened to via 92.9 FM or online at GoBlackBears.com/MIHRadio.

WHAT'S ON TAP
• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team and Boston University will meet for a single game on Friday at Agganis Arena.
• The Black Bears played one game last week, falling to #9 Providence at home in overtime, 3-2 ... the Terriers, who take on Northeastern in the Men's Beanpot semifinal on Tuesday, dropped a home game to Boston College on Friday, 4-1.
• Maine sits at 14-10-2 overall and 8-8-0 in Hockey East play ... the Black Bears are 2-3-0 in the last five games 5-3-2 in the last 10.

SERIES HISTORY vs BOSTON UNIVERSITY
• Maine holds an all-time record of 58-76-15 in the series with Boston University.
• The teams met twice in Orono in the first semester, with Maine picking up a 5-4 overtime win on Halloween and an 8-5 win the next night.
• Eighteen current Black Bears have at least one career point against the Terriers ... Thomas Freel (3-6-9) leads all active Black Bears followed by Brandon Holt (1-6-7).
• The first meeting with both teams as varsity squads came on Nov. 20, 1979 as the Terriers picked up a 5-3 win at Walter Brown Arena.
• Maine held an 11-game winning streak against the Terriers from Oct. 1986 to Nov. 1989.

• Maine is averaging 3.5 goals per game, good for a tie for 10th in the country ... the last time Maine averaged 3.5 or more goals per game in a season was 2009-10 (3.7).
• Justin Poirier is tied fifth in the country and is first among all rookies with 18 goals.
• Brandon Holt is third in active career scoring by a Hockey East defender, totaling 66 points on 17 goals and 48 assists.
• Frank Djurasevic is 20th in the country and second in Hockey East with a career-high 49 blocks.
• Since Maine was ranked in both national polls on Oct. 30, 2023, the Black Bears have been ranked in 65 consecutive polls for the longest stretch for the program since an 84-week stretch from Dec. 3, 2001 to Jan. 3, 2005.
• Since the start of the 2023-24 season, Maine has outshot the opponent in 79 of 100 games.
