Orono, Maine -- You're invited to join the University of Maine in the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration when the women's basketball team hosts Bryant on Saturday, Feb. 7. This year's National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration is presented by Bangor Savings Bank, Aroma Joe's, Law Office of Joe Bornstein, Hannaford and in partnership with Strong Girls United.

Prior to the game against Bryant, the Black Bears will host a structured Interactive Sports Fair in the New Balance Field House at 11 a.m. for kids eighth grade and younger.

Doors for the Interactive Sports Fair will open at 10:30 a.m. Representatives from UMaine's varsity programs, along with additional UMaine Club Team representatives, will be on hand to offer youth the opportunity to participate in several drills from a variety of different sports and competitive events. Youth planning to attend the Interactive Sports Fair are asked to arrive prior to 11 a.m. as the attendees will be divided into groups prior to the fair beginning.

Representatives from the Strong Girls United Foundation will join the sports fair. Strong Girls United is a foundation whose mission is to empower girls to be strong, confident, and resilient through sport and physical activity alongside menstrual health and well-being activities.

All youth who RSVP for the Interactive Sports Fair are eligible for complimentary tickets to attend the UMaine women's basketball game vs. Bryant and a complimentary 'Strong Girls United' t-shirt, while supplies last. A ticket will grant access to the Interactive Sports Fair and the UMaine women's basketball game against the Bulldogs. Parents and guardians are eligible for a special, group ticket rate of $6 to attend the fair and the game. All tickets may be picked up or purchased at the will call table in the lobby of Memorial Gym on game day.
