Five Maine teams post perfect NCAA Academic Progress Rate scores

ORONO, Maine – Five University of Maine teams earned a perfect score of 1,000 on the latest multi-year academic progress rate (APR) data released today by the NCAA.
This year's scores include data from the 2020-21 through the 2023-24 academic years, with men's cross country, women's basketball, women's cross country, softball and women's soccer achieving perfect multi-year APR rates in that time frame. Women's cross country has now earned a mark of 1,000 in 19 consecutive reports while softball has achieved a perfect mark for seven consecutive years and women's basketball for five straight years.
Additionally, Maine had nine teams post perfect single-year APR rates for 2023-24: men's cross country, men's track, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's ice hockey, softball, women's soccer, women's swimming and women's track all achieved perfect scores for the 2023-24 academic year.
Women's soccer, women's basketball, softball, field hockey, women's cross country, baseball, men's basketball and men's cross country all posted four-year APR scores at or higher than the national Division I average.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all D-I sports teams nationally. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. This year's scores include data from the 2020-21 through the 2023-24 academic years.
The APR, or Academic Progress Rate, holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term. The APR is calculated as follows:

- Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.
- A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team's Academic Progress Rate.
- In addition to a team's current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.
