Shearer named America East Female Track Athlete of the Week

Orono, ME - The University of Maine's Helen Shearer was named the America East Female Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Shearer, a senior from Hampden, Maine; competed in the 3000 Steeplechase event at the Friar Invitational on Friday April 11. Shearer finished in 6th place overall with a time of 10:42.58, finishing as the fastest time from an America East athlete at the invitational. Shearer's time also set a new Outdoor Track and Field record for the University of Maine.
Shearer wins her first America East weekly award of the Outdoor Season. Shearer is also the first Maine athlete to win a weekly award for the outdoor season.
Shearer and the Black Bears will take on the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT and the Holy Cross Invitational on Friday April 18 and Saturday April 19.
