Marsanskis named America East Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ORONO, Maine - Luke Marsanskis has been named the 2024 America East Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced on Wednesday by the conference office.
Marsanskis is a graduate student in the Mechanical Engineering program who ended the fall semester with a 3.79 GPA. Marsanskis was also named an America East Spring Scholar Athlete in the spring of 2024, along with being named to the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association's All Academic Team for the Fall semester.
During the season, Marsanskis took home back to back first place wins at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on October 11 with a time of 24:10.6 in an 8k. Then the second half of the back to back came at the 2024 America East Cross Country Championships with a time of 23.51.8, claiming the individual title. Marsanskis then finished seventh at NCAA regionals with a time of 30:07.5 in the 10k race, punching his ticket to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships where he finished with a time of 29.54.1.
Marsanskis becomes the third Black Bear to be named a scholar athlete of the year since 2000, joining Kirby Davis (2005 and 2006) and Jesse Orach (2015 and 2016).
Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a projected starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.
