ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine track and field program hosted their Black Bear Invitational meet on Friday December 12. The Black Bears hosted the University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals and the Husson University Eagles at the New Balance Indoor Track. The Black Bears finished with 106 points.
The afternoon got underway with the Men's Weight Throw event. Senior Ryker Brown ran away with the event finishing in 1st place with a distance of 19.28m (63' 3"). Gavin McGarrity finished as the runner up with a distance of 17.27m (56' 8").
Ryker Brown would once again capture a 1st place finish with a final distance of 16.26m (53' 4.25") in the Shot Put event. Ryker Paradis would finish in 2nd place with a final distance of 15.81m (51' 10.5").
Will Rush took home 1st place in the Long Jump event with a distance of 6.97m (22' 10.5"). Conor Morin took home a second place overall finish with a distance of 6.85m (22' 5.75"). Billy Albertson rounded out the top three with a distance of 6.65m (21' 9.75").
In the Pole Vault, Thomas McCormack took home a dominating first place finish with a height of 4.43m (14' 6.5"). Luke Patterson took home a second place finish with a height of 3.60m (11' 9.75").
Ben Therriault would capture a win in the High Jump event with a height of 1.90m (6' 2.75"). Luke Patterson would tie Therriault at the top of the leader board also finishing with a height of 1.90m (6' 2.75").
Kaleb Colson took home 1st place in the mile run as he flew through the competition finishing with a time of 4:09.08. Charlie Collins finished second overall with a time of 4:09.88. Carter Libby rounded out the top three with a final time of 4:14.03.
Conor Morin would fly through the air to capture a 1st place finish in the Triple Jump event with a distance of 14.22m (46' 7.75"). Will Rush came in second place with a final distance of 13.98m (45' 10.5").
Ryan Fernstrom would capture a 1st place overall finish in the 600m Run with a final time of 1:23.16. Jacob Robinson-Smey would finish with a second place finish, finishing with a time of 1:25.28 as the Black Bears took the top 2 spots in the event.
Maine would sweep the top three spots in the 60m Hurdles as Myles Hang would win the event with a time of 8.65. Ben Therriault would finish in second place with a time of 8.72 and Ryan Fernstrom would round out the top three with a time of 9.28.
Cole Martin would win the 60m Dash as he finished with a time of 6.90. Miles Gay took home a second place overall finish with a time of 6.96. Max Shapiro would capture a third place finish in his first collegiate home meet with a time of 7.04.
Charlie Collins would run away with the win in the 3000m run as he finished with a time of 8:32.35. Eli Palmer would finish in second place with a time of 8:45.18 and Ethan Keller would finish his first collegiate home meet with a time of 8:45.34.
Miles Gay would win the 300m Run as he would finish with a time of 34.70. Andrew Card would take home a second place overall finish as he finished with a time of 34.86. Nolan Feyler would round out the top three with a final time of 35.60.
In the 4000m Distance Medley Relay, the group of Ethan Keller, Ryan Fernstrom, Dan Knight, and Kaleb Colson would win the event with a time of 10:29.19. Kyle McClellan, Luke Patterson, Aran Johnson and Adam Bendetson would take home a second place overall finish with a time of 10:33.77. Eli Palmer, Owen Transue, Carter Libby and Myles Quirion would finish in third place with a time of 10:42.77.
The 4x200m Relay would wrap up the final event of the evening as the group of Billy Albertson, Nolan Feyler, Miles Gay and Andrew Card would win the event. The group finished with a final time of 1:30.69.
The Black Bears will open up the spring semester at the Bates College Invitational on January 17th.
