A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine has opened the season at 2-1 and enters play riding a two-game win streak after a convincing 69-48 victory over UMass in Sunday afternoon's home opener. Anne Simon has notched double-digits in each of her first three games this season, and seven-straight dating back to the 2022-23 campaign, and was tabbed as the America East Player of the Week on Monday. Over the first week, Simon averaged 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while notching her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 boards in a win at La Salle. During the stretch, Simon moved into 10th on Maine's all-time scoring list (1,415), 13th in all-time triples (130), and snatched her 500th career rebound. Adrianna Smith, the reigning America East Player of the Year, began the year with double-digit scoring in each of the first two games before seeing her 23 game double-digit scoring streak come to an end with seven points against UMass. Smith, who led the America East in double-doubles a year ago, posted her first one of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds at La Salle. Smith leads the America East in rebounding (11.7) and double-digit rebounding totals in two straight with the other performance being a nine rebound showing.

Maine has won the rebounding battle in each of its first three games and enter play leading the America East in rebounds per game (43.0), offensive rebounding (16.0), and rebound margin (+14.3). The Black Bears are also tops in the league in assists (14.7) with a league-high 24.7 three point attempts per game.

A LOOK AT RHODE ISLAND:
Rhode Island, 2-0 on the year with wins against Sacred Heart and UMass Lowell, was selected as the preseason favorite in the A-10 after a 26-7 season a year ago. The Rams stumbled in the A-10 tournament, losing to Saint Louis in the semifinal, but went on to win a pair of games in the WNIT. Tammi Reiss, the 2022-23 A-10 Coach of the Year, returns for her fifth season. URI's balanced attack featured four double-figure scorers led by Tenin Magassa (13.0) and Teisha Hyman (12.0/7.0 RPG). The Rams check in sixth in the country in defense, allowing just 39.0 ppg, while averaging 84.5 on the offensive end. URI boasts a +20 turnover margin, good for second in the nation, while forcing 27.0 turnovers per game.

SERIES WITH RHODE ISLAND:
Maine and Rhode Island, playing for a fourth-straight season and the 28th time in history, will meet in Orono for the first time since 2005 with the previous two meetings in Maine taking place in Augusta (2021) and Portland (2012). Rhode Island, who has won two in a row in the series, hold a slight edge (14-13) in the all-time head-to-head category. The Rams took last season's meeting, 63-43, in Kingston. Maine's last win in the series came in 2020, a 61-47 victory at the Ryan Center. Maine is 4-3 all-time at home against Rhody. Jaycie Christopher's 12 points, a 4-for-4 performance from three-point range, led Maine's scoring last year at URI. Anne Simon, who missed last season's meeting with an injury, is averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in two career games with Rhode Island.
