Five Black Bears register double-figures in win over UAlbany

Anne Simon becomes the 23rd Black Bear in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points
Orono, Maine -- All five of Maine's starters recorded double-digit scoring efforts as the Black Bears (12-10, 9-3) tallied their sixth-straight win with a 64-55 victory over UAlbany (16-7, 9-3) in front of a raucous crowd at 'The Pit' inside Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
Anne Simon and Alba Orois each registered 17 points to lead the Black Bears while Maeve Carroll, Caroline Bornemann, and Paula Gallego each added 10. Simon also tallied her 1,000th career point in the win, becoming just the 23rd in the history of the program to reach the plateau and just the 10th to do so in three seasons.
The Black Bears turned in an impressive shooting mark in their home gym as the squad finished the night 27-of-48 (56.3) from the floor and 5-of-11 from three-point range while knocking down all five of their free throw attempts.
The contest featured seven lead changes and two ties while neither team led by more than nine.
UAlbany was able to grab their largest lead of the night early as a 6-0 run in the first quarter gave the visitors a 15-8 cushion with 3:13 left in the opening period.
Maine trimmed the lead to three entering the second and kept charging, grabbing its first lead of the night on Simon's jumper from outside the paint with 2:50 gone in the second.
After falling behind by one shortly after taking the lead, Maine responded with a 6-0 run on two buckets from Carroll to grab its largest lead of the half, 26-21.
The Black Bears would enter the break leading by four.
Maine's lead would reach five late in the third when Orois took advantage of one of UAlbany's 12 turnovers and turned it into a layup.
With Maine on top, 49-45, in the fourth, UAlbany put together a 5-0 run to take its first lead of the second half, 50-49.
The Black Bears would answer with a 5-0 run as Bornemann's triple regained the lead before the advantage stretched to four on Gallego's layup.
Maine would not trail the rest of the way.
After the Great Danes trimmed the lead to one, the Black Bears would end the game on an 8-0 run as they held UAlbany scoreless over the game's final 3:12. Simon's three with 51-seconds left in regulation was the dagger as the Black Bears scored their sixth-straight win, 64-55.
Maine returns to action when they travel to meet Stony Brook on Saturday at 2 p.m.
