Women's Basketball No. 17 in WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll

ORONO, Maine -- For the third time in the past six seasons, the University of Maine women's basketball team has been selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Academic Honor Roll. The Black Bears checked in at No. 17 on the national list with a team grade point average of 3.655, as announced by the WBCA on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Maine, the only America East school to receive a spot on the Top 25 Academic Honor Roll, earned its highest-ever seeding on the honor roll after previously being ranked No. 18 in 2016 and No. 24 in 2015. The Black Bears were especially impressive in the spring after posting a 3.85 GPA for the semester.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.

"The WBCA applauds these head coaches and their teams for their commitment to academic excellence," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. " We appreciate and value the hard work and dedication the players and coaches have put forth to thrive in the classroom and on the basketball court."
