Four Black Bears Earn End of Season Hockey East Honors

WAKEFIELD, Massachusetts -- The Hockey East Association announced Wednesday the 2018-19 end of season awards, as voted by the league's 11 head coaches. University of Maine junior forward Chase Pearson was named Gladiator Custom Mouthguards Best Defensive Forward and Second Team All-Star. Sophomores Brady Keeper and Jeremy Swayman and junior Mitchell Fossier were all named to the Third Team All-Stars.

Pearson totaled 78 points (37-41-78), a plus-18 rating and 132 penalty minutes in 107 games over three seasons. In 2018-19, Pearson notched a collegiate career-high 29 points (16-13-29) and ranked among Maine leaders with 16 goals, 13 assists, 29 points, a plus-21 rating.

Fossier finished the season with eight goals and 28 assists for 36 total points. The 28 assists was good enough for third in the conference and 11th in the nation. Tallying 12 points (7-5-12) over nine games, Fossier separated himself from the majority of the league starting with the Hockey East match-up at New Hampshire. 

Swayman earned four conference awards (Defensive Player of the Week) over his 35 starts between the pipes. The Anchorage, Alaska native completed his sophomore season with a .919 save percentage, a 2.77 GAA, and 14 wins.

Keeper appeared in 36 games this year, leading all Black Bears defensemen in goals (7), assists (15) and points (22). The 6-foot-0, 202-pound native of Cross Lake, Manitoba, played two seasons for Maine, appearing in 73 games and producing 44 points (13-31-44).
