Black Bears set new school record in the 400 medley relay

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's swim team closed its 2016-17 season with an 11th place finish (118 points) at the ECAC Championships which concluded on Sunday, March 5 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

The highlight of the week came from the Black Bears' 400 medley relay team. The squad, made up of Connor Mayhew, Shane Kinnon, Calvin Cleworth and Kevin Clyne, set a new school record in the event with a seventh place time of 3:25.79.

The Black Bear team of Mayhew, Kinnon, Cleworth and Clyne also combined for a seventh place showing in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:33.92.

Maine took home 11th in both the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.70) and the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:05.13). Swimming the 200 for Maine was Clyne, Kinnon, Cleworth and Tim Edison. Coulter Morrill, Cleworth, Alec Penn and Edison competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The Black Bears rounded out their relay competition with a 12th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Morrill, Clyne, Edison and Kinnon completed the event for Maine at 3:11.27.

Mayhew added a 13th place individual finish in the 200-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:53.83. Kinnon placed 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke finals at 56.83.

Kyle Adams had a solid showing on the diving boards for Maine. Adams finished third overall in the 3m with 225.95 points and was sixth in the 1m at 225.85.
