Brosseau named to Miami Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team
Coral Gables, Fl. -- Four Black Bears tallied double-digit scoring efforts as the University of Maine women's basketball team closed out the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament with a 75-39 victory over Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.
Fanny Wadling led all scorers with a career-high 17 points effort and narrowly missed her first career double-double after pulling down nine rebounds. Julie Brosseau added 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Tanesha Sutton recorded her second double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Blanca Millan rounded out the double-digit scoring efforts with 11 points.
Brosseau averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists to earn a spot on the Miami Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team.
The Black Bears, who entered the game second in the conference in turnovers per game, presented a stunning effort as they forced 20 Kennesaw State turnovers while only giving it away four times. Maine turned the ball over just one in the first half and finished the game with a 25-5 margin in points off turnovers.
Maine finished the game 30-for-65 (46.2%) from the floor while limiting the Owls to a 28.8% effort from the floor.
The Black Bears, who have now won four of their last five, scored the first bucket of the game and never trailed in the first quarter. Leading by one late in the period, Maine put together a 9-0 run to close out the quarter, building its lead to 22-12 heading into the second.
Maine continued its trend of closing strong as it went on an 11-2 run to end the second quarter, taking its largest lead of the first half, entering the break with a 42-21 lead.
Maine's offensive attack and defensive effort remained strong in the third quarter. The Black Bears held Kennesaw State scoreless over an 7:57 stretch, piecing together a 12-0 run to take a 57-30 advantage late in the period.
Kelly Fogarty's 3-pointer with 5-seconds left in the third built the Black Bear lead out to 60-32 to end the third.
The Owls were unable to chip away at the lead. Maine closed out the contest on a 10-0 run to wrap up a convincing 75-39 victory.
The Black Bears are back in action on Nov. 30 when they travel to meet Toledo at 7 p.m.
