Former Diver, Current Coach Kara Capossela Named Outstanding Graduate Student in Human Development

Orono, Maine -- UMaine diving record holder and current diving coach for the Black Bears, Kara Capossela, has been named the Oustanding Graduate Student in Human Development within the College of Education and Human Development.
While as an undergrad at UMaine, Capossela was a member of Athletes for Sexual Responsibility during her junior and senior years and served as a teaching assistant for Family Interaction.
Following graduation, Capossela has spent the past two years serving as a graduate assistant forth both large section of Family Interaction and Human Sexuality. Also, she was the graduate coordinator for the Athletes for Sexual Responsibility peer education group. As coordinator, she worked with approximately 20 student-athletes each year to develop and present several workshops on campus as well as overseeing the many education outreach programs during Sexual Assault Month, World AIDS Day and Pride Week, to name a few.
In addition, she has served as the HUD representative on the Graduate Student Government as well as a student representative on the university's Sexual Assault and Violence Prevention Committee.
As an athlete, Capossela broke record in both the 1M and 3M springboard, co-captaining the UMaine swim team during her time. Following her competition days, Capossela was hired as head diving coach at UMaine where, during her first two seasons, she has guided student-athletes to final appearances at the conference championships.
