Schwanz and Stypulkowski Homer As Baseball Defeats Colby 9-3

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Tyler Schwanz and Kevin Stypulkowski both hit home runs as the Black Bears defeated Colby College 9-3 Wednesday afternoon. Maine improves to 16-27 overall on the year.
Jonah Normandeau received the start for Maine, Will Cohen started for Colby.
In the bottom of the first, Colby pushed across two runs. Tyler Mulberry singled scoring one and the Mules took a 1-0 lead. Matt Garcia later singled in the inning driving in another run to increase their lead, 2-0.
Maine tied the game with a two run home run from Tyler Schwanz in the top of the second. Lou Della Fera later grounded out to second but driving in a run as the Black Bears went ahead, 3-2. Jeremy Pena then singled scoring Jonathan Salcedo as Maine increased their lead, 4-2.
Jeremy Pena then doubled in the top of the seventh scoring Caleb Kerbs as Maine took a 5-2 advantage. Colin Ridley later grounded out to second as Jeremy Pena scored giving the Black Bears a 6-2 edge.
Colby's Tommy Forese singled scoring one run and the Mule's scored their third run of the game, 6-3.
In the top of the ninth, Colin Ridley doubled scoring Danny Casals as Maine went on top, 7-3. Kevin Stypulkowski later hit a two run home run as Maine pushed across two more runs and held a commanding 9-3 lead.
Connor Johnson earned the win, his third of the year (3-4). He pitched five innings of relief, allowing two hits, no runs and striking out nine.
Maine travels to Albany this weekend for a three game America East series, the Great Danes and Black Bears are currently tied at 5-9 in America East play.
