Baseball Drops Doubleheader Against Binghamton

ORONO, Maine -- Maine baseball (18-33) dropped the doubleheader against Binghamton (27-22) Friday afternoon. In game one, the Black Bears lost 7-3 and game two the Bearcats were victorious 4-2.
John Arel started game one on the mound for the Black Bears and Jake Cryts started for the Bearcats. Arel went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out three. Cryts received the win for the Binghamton, he pitched in five innings as well, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four. He improves to 7-4 on the year, while Arel drops to 2-9.
Maine jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second after Tyler Schwanz stole home.
In the top of the fifth, Caleb Kerbs launched a homer to left field giving the Black Bears a 2-0 advantage.
Binghamton answered in the bottom of the fifth with four runs of their own, two runs were scored after a throwing error as the Bearcats tied the game 2-2. Reed Gamache homered to left center as Binghamton took the lead, 4-2.
Chris McGee singled to right field driving in the fifth Bearcat run in the bottom of the sixth. The Bearcats added one more in the inning from an RBI bunt single by C.J. Krowiak.
Colin Ridley singled to right field driving in Danny Casals as Maine cut into the Bearcat lead, 6-3.
Daniel Franchi singled through the right side of the infield for the Bearcats in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-3 advantage.

In game two, Eddie Emerson started for the Black Bears and Mike Bunal for the Bearcats.
Binghamton scored the first run of the game as Brendan Skidmore doubled to right center in the the bottom of the fourth.
Brett Chappell hit a two run homer in the top of the fifth to put the Maine on top 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Binghamton's David Schanz singled up the middle driving in two runs as the Bearcats took a 3-2 lead. Brendan Skidmore grounded out to short driving in one more run as Binghamton took a 4-2 advantage.
Jake Erhard (1-0) picked up the win, after pitching one inning allowing two runs on two hits. Jake Wloczewski earned the save his first of the year. Nick Silva (3-2) received the loss.
Maine and Binghamton square off for game three of the series tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
