Black Bears Split Doubleheader Against Stony Brook On Alumni Day

ORONO, Maine -- Maine Baseball (18-30) splits doubleheader against Stony Brook on Alumni Day at Mahaney Diamond honoring the 1976 and 1986 College World Series teams. In game one, Maine came away victorious 2-1 and game two the Seawolves defeated the Black Bears 8-1 in a seven inning affair.
Game one featured senior Logan Fullmer started on the hill for Maine and Chad Lee for the Seawolves.
Stony Brook opened with the first run of the season after Casey Baker hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring the lone Stony Brook run of the game.
Kevin Stypulkowski hit a towering home run to right field as Maine tied the game 1-1, in the bottom of the second.
In the following inning, Maine's Colin Ridley singled to right field driving in Jeremy Pena as the Black Bears took a 2-1 lead.
Logan Fullmer went seven innings allowing five hits, one run and striking out nine, for his last career start at Mahaney Diamond. Fullmer earned the win and is now 4-2 overall.
Nick Silva came on in the eighth and ninth to record his fifth save of the season.

In game two, John Arel received the start on the mound for Maine and Brett Clarke for the Seawolves.
Stony Brook exploded for four runs in the second inning. Toby Handley singled up the middle driving in one run. Sean Buckholt later singled up the middle driving in two more runs taking a 3-0 lead. David Real later reached on an error as a run scored increasing a 4-0 advantage.
In the third inning, Stony Brook tallied one more run as Toby Handley hit a sacrifice fly to right field, the Seawolves were ontop 5-0.
John Arel went three innings, allowing hits hits, seven runs. He received the loss and is now 2-7 on the year.
Andruw Gazzola in the fourth hit a two run bomb to right center, a two run shot, as the Seawolves increased their margin 7-0.
Maine answered in the bottom half of the inning as Colin Ridley doubled to right center, Stony Brook 7-1.
Stony Brook pushed across one more run in the top of the seventh as Johnny Caputo hit a sacrifice fly to right.
Brett Clarke earned the win and is now 6-2 on the season.
The rubber game of the series is tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day at Mahaney Diamond.
