Women's Swimming and Diving Finish 4th In America East Championships

WORCESTER, Massachusetts - After the final day of competition for the America East Swimming Championships, Maine remained in 4th with 448 total points. UMBC went on to win the event with 885.5 points, with UNH in second with 824.5. Vermont scored 636.5 to sit right in front of Maine in third, and Binghamton finished with 329.5
In Sunday's first event, the 1650 yard freestyle, Maine Freshman Shayla Rose Kleisinger finished 7th in the long event with a time of 17:25.08 giving Maine 12 points. Other Black Bears finishing the event include Alison Brodt who finished 9th with a time of 17:36.46, and Beatrix Lavigeuer in 12th at 17:55.81, which brought Maine's point total from the event to 26.
In the second event, the 200 Yard Backstroke, Maine's Megan McGillivray finished 4th with a time of 2:02.68 breaking the school record set in 2014 by Shannon Bender at 2:03.46. Amber Murray finished 9th at 2:08.06, Courtney Norman finished 11th at 2:09.11, and Tessa Lindsley finished 14th at 2:12.91, giving Maine a total of 33 points to their total score from that event.
The 100 Yard Freestyle saw 3 Black Bear swimmers in the finals, Emily Borger finished 4th with a time of 51.69, Chole Adams finished 12th with 52.51, and Juliana McDonald finished 15th at 52.91 giving Maine 22 total points to their score.
The following event was the 200 Yard Breaststroke which saw 2 Black Bears in the final heat, Emma Blackdeer finished 7th with a final time of 2:21.18 and Cece McEachern finished 11th at 2:22.99. They provided 18 points for Maine.
The second to last event was the 200 Yard Butterfly, with Taylor Sharp finishing in 9th with a time of 2:09.96, and in the B-final Victoria Kingston in 13th with 2:08.16, and Emma Pontious in 14th with 2:10.29 for a total score of 18 points for Maine.
The last event of the day and of the weekend was the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay where Maine finished in 4th with a time of 3:28.64 for 30 points. The team was made up of Emily Borger, Megan McGillivray, Julianna McDonald, and Chloe Adams.
This ends the season for the Women's Swimming and Diving teams, the Men's team takes on the ECAC championship February 26th-28th
