Women's Hockey Falls to UConn in Overtime

TORRS, Connecticut - The Black Bears Women's Ice Hockey team scored a late goal to tie the game but couldn't finish in overtime, losing to UConn 2-1.
UConn scored 10:48 into the first period on a goal from Leah Lum to put UConn up 1-0. UConn led slightly in shots after the first period with a 9-7 advantage. Both teams were even in penalties with 1 for 2 minutes.
In the second period the teams were once again even in penalties as both teams sent 2 players to the box for 4 minutes total; no goals resulted and the score remained 1-0 after 2 periods. Maine outshot UConn 11-7 in the period.
The game remained 1-0 until the last quarter of the 3rd period, when Emilie Brigham tied the game with Audra Richards getting the assist, sending the game to overtime. The goal came on a power play 14:27 into the third period. Maine outshot UConn 19-2 in the period.
2:41 into the overtime period UConn scored the game winner from Leah Buress; Maine goaltender Meghann Treacy saved 19 of 21 shots faced in the loss as she falls to 9-17-2; UConn goaltender Elaine Chuli made 39 saves of 40 shots faced, her record improves to 8-10-2.
The two teams play again Saturday, February 13th at 2pm.
