
Reid-Knight Scores Career-High 18 in Loss at UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md. -- University of Maine men's basketball guard Troy Reid-Knight poured in a career-high 18 points but it wasn't enough as the Black Bears dropped an 89-76 decision at UMBC on Saturday afternoon.
Lavar Harewood added 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting while Shaun Lawton chipped in a season-high 12. Ilija Stojiljkovic rounded out Maine's double-digit scoring performers with his second-straight 10 point showing.
Maine shot 49.2% from the field and hit 10 shots from beyond the arc, its fourth double-digit 3-point performance of the year.
UMBC went 30-for-51 from the field (58.1%) and was led by Jairus Lyles' game-high 27 points.
The Retrievers were quick out of the gate, taking a 13-4 lead 5:19 into the contest on one of Lyles' three treys of the game.
Maine settled in and answered with a 10-2 run, knotting the game at 14-all. The Black Bears continued to dig and were able to grab their first lead, 22-21, on a 3-pointer from Stojiljkovic.
The Black Bears built their lead out to six on Harewood's 9-0 run before a jumper from Reid-Knight gave them their largest lead of the first half, 33-26, with just under five-minutes to play in the first half.
UMBC fought back to re-take the lead, closing the half with a 13-4 run and taking a 39-37 lead into the break on Rodney Elliott's last second jumper.
Maine came out of the half with a 10-7 run to tie the game on back-to-back 3-pointers by Shaun Lawton.
A 12-3 run from UMBC answered as the Retrievers would go up by eight with 12:02 remaining.
The Black Bears responded, this time with a 9-1 run capped on a 3-pointer by Reid-Knight, once again tying the game.
UMBC began to distance itself when a 26-10 run gave the Retrievers their largest lead of the game, 85-69, with 2:15 to play.
Maine continued to fight but ran out of time, falling by a score of 89-76.
The Black Bears continued America East road action on Wednesday, Jan. 13 when it travels to meet UMass Lowell at 11 a.m.
