
Calixte, Little Lead Men's Basketball Past Brown, 98-92

BANGOR, Maine -- Kevin Little and Aaron Calixte combined for 46 points as the University of Maine men's basketball team defeated Brown, 98-92, in its non-conference finale on Saturday afternoon.
Little led all scorers with 24 points, hitting a career-high six 3-pointers, while Calixte recorded a career-high 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting to go along with six assists. Troy Reid-Knight chipped in 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench and Till Gloger finished with 14 points, 10 of which coming in the second half.
The Black Bears finished 13-for-24 (54.2%) from 3-point range, their highest percentage of the season, and assists on 20 of their 33 makes. Maine shot 48.5% from the floor and knocked down 19-of-26 free throws (73.1%).
Brown jumped out to a four point advantage early in the first half. Maine answered with an 8-2 run, capped on a 3-pointer from Reid-Knight, to grab a one point lead.
After the Bears knotted the score, Maine dashed out on a 12-0 run with triples from Little and Marko Pirovic, extending its lead to 27-15 at the midway point of the opening half.
Brown settled and continued to fight, chipping away and cutting the lead back down to three with under two minutes remaining in the first.
The Black Bears carried a 48-43 lead into the half.
Maine rebuilt its lead back up to seven early in the second half but Brown fought back. A 16-8 run by the visitors gave Brown a one point edge, its first lead since the 14:12 mark of the first half.
The Black Bears tied the score back up before a three by Little put Maine back on top, the ninth lead change of the afternoon.
Maine continued to lead by three until it ripped off six points in a 13-second span. Little stroked his sixth three of the game before snatching a quick steal and hitting Reid-Knight for a triple, pushing Maine's lead the nine with 1:50 to play.
Brown would not get any closer than six the rest of the way as Maine picked up its second-straight victory, 98-92, to close non-conference play.
The Black Bears open America East league action on Jan. 6 when they host Vermont at 7 p.m.
