Softball Drops Extra Inning Regular Season Finale at Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The University of Maine (22-20, 10-7 America East) dropped its regular season finale at Binghamton (20-18, 10-6 AE) by a score of 5-4 in eight innings on Saturday. Maine will now meet Stony Brook in the opening round of the America East Tournament.
Jessica Burk (Warrenton, Va.) and Felicia Lennon (Brookfield, Conn.) each had two hits and two RBI, with a home run and a double each, to lead the offensive charge for the Black Bears.
Binghamton's Lisa Cadogan tied the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh and the Bearcats went on to walk-off in the eighth.
Lennon put Maine on the board with her two-out solo home run in the top of the first. For Lennon, it was her fourth home run of the spring.
Binghamton came right back with a run in the home half of the first after Rutherford singled home Harbaugh, tying the score at 1-1.
Maine regained the lead with back-to-back RBI doubles from Burk and Lennon in the top of the third to take a 3-1 advantage.
Burk added to the Black Bear lead with her fifth home run of the year, a solo shot in the top of the fifth, extending Maine's lead to 4-1.
Binghamton was able to get a run back in the sixth when Taylor Chaffee dropped a single into right field, bringing around Rutherford and cutting the Maine lead to 4-2.
Cadogan came up with the big hit of the day for the Bearcats as her two-run homer tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
Binghamton would go on to take a 5-4 victory on Stephanie Bielec's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.
Annie Kennedy (Sound Beach, N.Y.) started for the Black Bears, taking the no decision after going 2.0 innings and giving up one run on three hits. Erin Bogdanovich (South Portland, Maine) went 3.0 innings in relief, giving up one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Molly Flowers (East Haven, Conn.) takes the loss for the Black Bears after going 2.1 innings and giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits with two strikeouts.
