Maine Swimming and Diving Announces 2015-16 Captains

ORONO, Maine – University of Maine swimming and diving coach Susan Lizzotte announced today that her team has selected captains for the 2015-16 season. Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario), Courtney Norman (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) and Sammy Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) will serve as captain on the women's side. Cam Dwyer (Orono, Maine), Tim Edison (Westford, Mass.) and Matt England (Bangor, Maine) will serve as captains on the men's side.
Sharp, who primarily swims the butterfly and freestyle, received the team's 2015 Switzer Dedication Award. She had an outstanding performance at the 2015 America East Championships, finishing third in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.34, third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.69 and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:02.50. Sharp is part of Maine's school-record 200-yard medley relay team.
Norman competes in the freestyle. She earned the team's Erin Woolley Memorial Award at the annual team banquet at the end of April. She placed 16th in the 2015 America East Championships in the in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:56.21. She also swam in the 500-yard freestyle at the America East Championships. Norman placed sixth in the 1,000-yard freestyle against Rhode Island.
Mathieu swims primarily the freestyle and breaststroke. In the 2015 America East Championships, she placed 12th in both the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.97 and in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.37. She placed 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.15.
Dwyer swims the IM and the butterfly. He was part of Maine's 800-yard freestyle relay team that placed 10th at the ECAC Championships in 7:03.36. He also swam the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly at the ECAC Championships. He won both the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard breaststroke in the season-opener at Rhode Island. He touched second in the 200-yard IM out of 23 swimmers at the Harold Anderson Invitational. He was third in the 200-yard butterfly in a meet at Bates.
Edison typically swims the freestyle and IM. He won the Chandler Comeback Award at the annual team banquet at the end of April. He was a part of two impressive swims at the 2015 ECAC Championships. Edison was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished eighth in a time of 3:08.34. He was also part of Maine's 400-yard medley relay team that finished second in the consolation finals. He also swam in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM at the ECAC Championships.
Matt England was recently named the 2015 Co-Most Valuable Swimmer. He holds individual Maine records in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke. He is also part of the 200-yard and the 400-yard medley relay team that holds school records. He set the school record in the 100-yard backstroke at the 2015 ECAC Championships where he placed eighth. He broke the school record in the prelims with a time of 49.42. He was 12th in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:50.99. England was part of Maine's 200-yard medley relay team, which finished sixth at the ECAC Championships with a school-record time of 1:32.14. He was part of Maine's 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed eighth in 3:08.34.
