
Maine Men's Track and Field Takes Down Holy Cross at Home

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's squad recorded an 98-81 team win over Holy Cross in the squad's dual meet at the New Balance Indoor track on Saturday afternoon. It was the second home meet of the indoor season.
Wilson Adams got things started in the throws as he took first overall in the weight throw with a mark of 18.73m (61-05.00). That mark is a new season-best for the senior.
Assad Hicks was the first in a trio of long jumpers that took first-through-third for the Black Bears. Hicks finished with a mark of 6.40m (21-00.00), while Devin Burgess came in second (6.21 meters/20-04.50) and Julian Hubbard finished third with a mark of (6.17m/20-03.00).
Hicks followed that up with another first place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.97m (6-05.50). Maine placed the top-five entrants in the high jump as Tyler Martin (1.87m), Connor Harris (1.82), Joseph Slattery (1.82m) and Matthew York (1.77m) followed Hicks.
Jeremy Frantz took first in the shot put for Maine as Maine placed the top four in the event. Frantz recorded a mark of 13.73m (45-00.5) while Adam Lufkin (12.96m), James Rutter (12.94m) and York (11.52m) finished behind Frantz.
Maine swept the jump events with Julian Hubbard's first place finish in the triple jump. Hubbard finished with a final jump of 13.76m (45-01.75) as Herby Lafortune (13.19m) and Harris (12.98m) finished second and third, respectively.
In distance running, Levi Frye continued his stellar year as he took first. Frye finished with a time of 4:16.40 and teammate Justin Tracy finished third with a mark of 4:23.54.
Maine placed three members in the top-3 in the 60-meter hurdles as Rutter (8.90 seconds), Elijah Yeboah (8.90 seconds) and, Andrew Toothaker (8.98 seconds) took first through third, respectively.
Senior, Scott Merrill, also recorded a first-place for the Black Bears as he recorded top-honors in the 500m with a time of 1:06.47.
Mozai Nelson continued his strong first year on the team as he took home another top-finish in the 60-meter dash, coming with a time of 7.02 seconds. That 7.02-second mark is the best so far this season for Nelson. Nelson then followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.95 seconds.
The men's squad will be back in action on Valentines Day as it competes at the Valentines invitational in Boston, Mass. That meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.
