Swimming Completes Competition in 2015 America East Championships

WORCESTER, Massachusetts – The University of Maine women's swimming and diving team completed competition in the 2015 America East Championships on Sunday evening.
Maine's Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario) placed third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.69 to earn 16 points for the Black Bears. Emma Pontius (Portland, Maine) placed ninth in 2:05.94, while Victoria Kingston (Bradford, Ontario) finished 12th in 2:09.65.
Emily Borger (Air Force Base, Massachusetts) finished tied for fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, touching in 51.77. She just missed Jessie Ellis-Alcaide's school record of 51.68 set in 2007. Chloe Adams (Davie, Florida) was 15th in 53.34, while Katerina Mosquera-Cardi (Montreal, Quebec) finished 16th in a time of 53.89.
Naja Harvey (Orono, Minnesota) was one of four Black Bears to earn points in the 200-yard breaststroke. She touched seventh with a mark of 2:20.06. Cecelia McEachern (Ellsworth, Maine) was 11th in 2:22.94, while Abby Linn (Elkhart, Indiana) placed one spot behind her with a time of 2:24.20. Samantha Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) was 14th with a time of 2:27.15.
Kailey Dowd (Mendon, Massachusetts) finished seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:30.79. Courtney Norman (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) was 10th in the event with a time of 17:47.98, while Katie-Jean Hinckley (Prospect, Connecticut) was 15th in 18:10.33.
Emily Buczkowski (Woolwich, Maine) was 10th in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:08.52, while Amber Murray (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) finished 12th in 2:09.87.
Maine's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Borger, Harvey, Mosquera-Cardi and Adams touched fourth in a time of 3:29.68.
UMBC won the 2015 America East Championship with a score of 791 points. The Retrievers were followed by UNH (777 points), Vermont (662 points), Binghamton (470.5 points) and Maine (433.5 points).
