Maine Men's Basketball Shown No Love From Stony Brook on Valentines Day; Lose, 80-52

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Till Gloger paced the Black Bear offense, scoring 15 for the game but Stony Brook downed Maine men's basketball, 80-52, at the Island FCU Arena on Saturday, afternoon. The loss drops the Black Bears to 3-22 and 2-10 in America East play while the win improves Stony Brook 17-10 and 8-4 in America East play.
Stony Brook had four players who notched double figures in this game while two players recorded double-doubles. Jameel Warney scored 13 points and secured 11 rebounds, while Rayshaun McGrew qualified by scoring 10 points and took down 15 rebounds.
Roland Nyama was the game's leading scorer as he poured in 24 points, while Carson Puriefoy scored 12.
Gloger's 15 led the way for maine and Shaun Lawton also notched double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds. Troy Reid-Knight managed eight points and Zarko Valjarevic scored seven.
The best rebounding team in the league exerted its will on the glass as it held a 52-28 rebounding advantage.
Stony Brook opened the contest on a 6-0 run thanks to four points by McGrew, which forced an early timeout from the Black Bears with 17:23 left in the first half.
The offense didn't improve following the timeout as a Kevin Little miss and a Lawton fastbreak layup shank, kept the score at 6-0.
A pair of treys by Nyama and Purifoy extended the lead to 12-0 and forced yet another Maine timeout with 16:12 left in the half.
Gloger broke the scoreless streak with a layup with 15:26 left in the half as he made it 12-2, but Stony Brook didn't relent, hitting a bucket before the under 16 minute media timeout, taking a 14-2 lead into the break.
Maine rode a 16-6 run to get within three of the lead thanks to a combined 12 points from Lawton and Troy Reid-Knight, who hit two treys apiece. Reid-Knight's 3-pointer at the 9:11 mark of the first half cut the score to 21-18.
A 9-2 run sparked by a Bryan Sekunda trey with a little over six minutes remaining forced yet another Maine timeout as the Black Bears were down 30-20.
Stony Brook rolled from there, pushing the score to 42-25, headed into halftime.
The Seawolves opened up the half on an 8-2 run to continue its dominance, as the squad extended its lead to 52-27 headed into the first media timeout.
Stony Brook cruised the rest of the way as a Sekunda trey pushed its lead to its largest point at the 6:39 mark of the first half, which gave the Seawolves a 39 point advantage, 72-33.
Stony Brook went on to outscore Maine 38-27 in the final frame to secure the 80-52 victory.
The Black Bears gear up for a busy week next week as it takes on UMass Lowell on Weds., in Lowell, Mass., and then travels to Baltimore for a Saturday date with UMBC.
