Women's Ice Hockey Falls to #1 Boston College, 4-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts --- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team lost to #1 Boston College 4-1 at Kelley Rink Saturday afternoon. Maine falls to 10-16-3 on the season, while #1 Boston College improves to 29-1-1.
Meghann Treacy (Lake Peakskill, New York) and Taylor Blake combined to save all 17 shots on goal in the first period. Treacy stonewalled the lone power play opportunity of the frame.
The stalemate continued into the second period until Kate Leary found the back of the net at (7:57). Dana Trivigno set Leary up for the slapshot. Megan Keller was also given an assist on the play.
Alex Carpenter wasted little time extending the Eagle lead. Haley Skarupa had her shot saved by Treacy, but the rebound trickled to Carpenter. Carpenter did the rest at (9:47). Kenzie Kent had the secondary assist on the play.
Boston College added a third goal in the period when Andie Anastos tipped Kaliya Johnson's shot past Treacy at (16:29). Johnson wristed a shot from the blue line that deflected off Anastos. Megan Keller was responsible for the secondary assist.
The Black Bears ended their weekend scoring woes with a goal from Brooke Stacey (Kahnawake, Quebec) at (18:23) in the second period. Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) had her original shot saved by Gabriella Switaj. Stacey picked up the loose puck and put her team on the board.
The Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 after Alex Carpenter scored at (15:45) in the third period. Haley Skarupa and Emily Pfalzer set up the scoring play.
Meghann Treacy saved 42 of 46 shots on goal. Taylor Blake saved 5 of 5 shots on goal, and after the substitution, Gabriella Switaj saved 7 of 8 shots on goal. The Black Bears were 0-3 on the power play, while the Eagles scored zero goals in five opportunities.
The Black Bears return to action February 21st at the Alfond Arena against the University of Connecticut. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
