Women's Basketball Drops 56-33 Decision at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Maine women's basketball team dropped a 56-33 decision at Purdue on Monday evening. The loss slips Maine back to 9-5 while Purdue improves to 9-2.
Sigi Koizar tallied nine points to lead the Black Bears while Bella Swan added eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Mikaela Gustafsson also added eight points.
Maine, which came in averaging a league high 6.7 three-point makes per game, went 1-for-15 from beyond the arc and finished the game 15-for-48 from the field (31.3%).
The Boilermakers, who finished the game at 48.1% from the floor, were led by Bridget Perry and April Wilson who each tallied 10 points.
Swan's layup with 3:20 left in the first quarter brought Maine within three. However, Purdue closed the quarter on a 5-1 run to lead 13-6 after one.
Purdue began the second quarter with a 10-2 run, giving the Boilermakers a 23-8 advantage, before Gustafsson snapped the run with a bucket, putting Maine in double-figures with 4:27 left in the half.
The Boilermakers lead would be 27-14 at the break.
Purdue continued to stay hot, scoring the first six points of the third before outscoring Maine 15-6 in the quarter to run the lead to 42-20.
Purdue took its largest lead of the game early in the fourth when an 8-2 run stretched the advantage to 28.
However, Maine continued to battle in the final quarter as Koizar broke out a 7-2 of her own, cutting the lead to 52-29 with 4:46 to play.
The Black Bears rush would run short as Purdue took the victory, 56-33.
Maine closes out its non-conference slate on Dec. 31 when it travels to meet North Carolina. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
