
Matt Morris, Black Bears Blank UMass 3-0 on Saturday

AMHERST, Massachusetts – Ben Hutton (Prescott, Ontario) and Steven Swavely (Reading, Pennsylvania) each had a goal and an assist, while Matt Morris (Ridgewood, New Jersey) made 29 saves en route to his first collegiate shutout as the University of Maine men's ice hockey team defeated UMass 3-0 on Saturday night at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Maine improves to 7-14-1 on the season, while UMass falls to 6-15-0.
Maine took a 1-0 lead just 35 seconds into the second period with a power play goal. UMass goalie Henry Dill made a save on Maine's Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario), and left a rebound in the crease. Hutton batted the puck into the net to give Maine a 1-0 lead. For Hutton, it was his fifth goal of the season. Shore, who had the initial shot, along with Steven Swavely each assisted on the first goal of the game for the Blak Bears.
Maine added to its lead at 7:18 of the second period. Shore skated the puck behind the net and found Swavely alone in the face-off circle. Swavely beat Dill five-hole to extend Maine's lead to 2-0.
Eric Schurhamer (St Paul, Minnesota) extended Maine's lead to 3-0 at 15:24 of the third period when his power play shot from the left face-off circle beat Dill. Cam Brown (Natick, Massachusettts) and Hutton each assisted on the goal.
Maine outshot UMass 37-29 in the game. Maine finished 2-for-6 on the power play, while UMass was 0-for-4.
Morris made 29 save in goal for the Black Bears and and improves to 3-4-1 on the season. Dill stopped 34 shots for the Minutemen and falls to 6-8-0.
