Women's Ice Hockey Selected Seventh in Hockey East Preseason Poll

BOSTON, Mass.-- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was selected seventh in the 2014-15 Women's Hockey East Preseason Poll released on Monday, Sept. 22. Maine received 22 points in the poll.
Boston University narrowly edged out Boston College for the top overall spot in the poll. The Terriers received four first place votes and 53 points overall, followed by the Eagles who also received four first place votes and 51 points overall. Northeastern was third with 44 points followed by Vermont with 40 points, Providence with 29 points, Connecticut with 24 points, Maine with 22 points and New Hampshire with 17 points.
The Black Bears return leading scorer from 2013-14 in Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) who had a team-high 15 goals and three assists for 18 points a year ago. Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) tallied three goals and seven assists for 10 points, while Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) finished with two goals and seven assists for nine points.
Maine returns all three of its goaltenders from a year ago. Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, New York) finished with a 3.03 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in 27 games. Mariah Fujimagari (Markham, Ontario) had a 3.17 goals against average and a .894 save percentage in eight games. Natalie Robinson (Huntsville, Ontario) appeared in one game.
More will serve as captain for the third straight season, while Brittany Huneke (Hastings, Minnesota) and Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) will serve as assistant captains.
Maine opens the 2014-15 season on Saturday, Sept. 27 when it hosts New Hampshire at 4 PM at Alfond Arena.
