
Men's Ice Hockey Fall at Vermont 4-1

BURLINGTON, Vermont – The University of Maine men's ice hockey dropped a 4-1 decision at the University of Vermont on Saturday night in Burlington, Vt. Maine's Connor Leen (Chester, N.Y.) picked up his second goal of the weekend in the game.
Maine falls to 3-6-1 on the season and 2-2-0 in Hockey East play. Vermont, ranked 14th in the nation in the latest poll, improves to 6-1-1 overall, 4-1-1 in conference action.
Vermont struck first with a pair of goals in 59 seconds early in the first period. On the power play, Alexx Privitera had his shot from just inside the blueline beat Maine goalie Sean Romeo (Cary, N.C.) Romeo got a piece of the shot, but not all of it. The Catamounts extended their lead to 3-0 at 6:03. On an odd-man rush, Jarrid Privitera slid the puck to Jonathan Tuck, who fired the puck into the net, giving UVM the 2-0 lead. Each team had several power play chances the remainder of the period, but neither capitalized.
Vermont added to its lead at 1:31 of the second period when Mike Stenerson beat Romeo from Brendan Bradley and Kevin Irwin.
Maine got on the board midway through the second period. Romeo made a stop and passed the puck up to Eric Schurhamer (St. Paul, Minn.). He chipped it up to Connor Leen (Chester, N.Y.) on a partial breakaway. Leen found the upper corner of the net to make it a 3-1 game. For Leen, it was his second goal of the weekend.
Brady Shaw added an empty-net goal at 18:50 to make it a 4-1 final.
Vermont outshot Maine 31-18 in the game. The Black Bears were 0-for-5 on the power play, while Vermont finished 1-for-4.
Maine goalie Sean Romeo made 27 saves in goal for the Black Bear. He falls to 1-3-0 on the season. Brody Hoffman made 17 saves for the Catamounts and improves to 5-0-1 on the campaign.
The Black Bears return to the ice when they host Boston University on Friday, Nov. 14. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM. Maine will celebrate the 1999 National Championship team on that night.
