Wildcats Halt Maine Field Hockey's Title Quest

ALBANY, N,Y. – The Wildcat's Meg Flatly notched three markers to help put an end to the Black Bears eighth-straight America East tournament appearance in Albany, N.Y., Thursday night. Maine ends the season 10-10 overall and 3-2 in conference.
The Black Bears received goals from Annabelle Hamilton and Danielle Aviani, who end the season one and two respectively on the team in points.
For New Hampshire aside from Flately's trio of goals the Wildcats also got two goals from Lindsey Nerbonne.
Maine opened the scoring in the contest in what was a wild five minute stretch with both teams tallying two goals apiece.
The Black Bears forced a penalty stroke at the 7:38 mark and Hamilton cashed in on the one-on-one opportunity to give Maine the early advantage.
Flatley answered right back for the Wildcats as she notched goal off a rebound shot with Nerbonne recording the assist nearly 1:30 later.
Aviani retook the lead as Hamilton ripped a shot from just inside the circle and the sophomore forward deflected it past the netminder just 21 seconds after the previous UNH marker.
The Wildcat's Flatley once again answered the deficit as she took advantage of passing play by Nerbonne and Ashley Medonca at the 11:40 mark.
The squads went into halftime knotted up at 2-2 but Nerbonne ended the tug-of-war with a goal in the 46th minute, which sparked a run of three-straight Wildcat goals.
Flatley tallied her third of the day at the 56:16 mark and Nerbonne added an insurance marker in the 66th minute.
Emma Cochran got the start in the cage as she fell to 5-5 on the year. The America East All-Rookie team selection made made five saves on 10 shots on goal. Meanwhile Carlie Tarbell made six saves on eight shots on goal.
Its been a year of streaks for Maine as the Black Bears high point came with an eight-game win streak that boosted the squad into a top-20 ranking but the Black Bears end the year on a four-game losing skid.
Maine boasted five America East All-Conference selections with Hamilton and Holly Stewart making first team, Aviani and Nicole Sevey named to the second team and Cochran making the all-rookie team.
Maine also had three honorees as part of the All-Academic team with Stewart, Zoe Berkey and Becca Paradee earning the selection.
