
Football Returns Home to Host #8 Richmond on New Balance Day

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine (3-5, 2-3 CAA) looks for its second-straight win, and third-straight over Richmond (7-2, 4-1 CAA), when the two teams meet on Saturday live on WVII/WPME and FOX College Sports . The Black Bears look forward to hosting all New Balance employees as we welcome its staff to Orono on "New Balance Employee Appreciation Day"!
GAME STORYLINES:
- Maine and Richmond will meet for the 25th time in history in an even series which is tied 12 wins each all-time. The Black Bears carry a two game winning streak in the series into the game. Richmond last visited Orono in 2009 where they entered as the #1 team in the country and defeated Maine 38-21. Maine last defeated Richmond in Orono in 2003 with a final score of 20-10. Maine is 5-5 all-time in Orono against the Spiders.
- In last season's meeting at Richmond, Maine's Lamar Fitzgerald was able to pull down an interception in the Black Bears' own end zone with just seconds left to secure a 28-21 win. Running back Nigel Jones tallied three scores and 115-yards on the ground in the victory. Maine totaled three interceptions in the win.
- Richmond enters the contest tied for second in the league at 4-1 and 7-2 overall. The Spiders have put together five-straight wins including a most recent 10-9 victory over then #3/4 Villanova.
- Richmond's league-leading pass offense (320.8 ypg) will go up against the Black Bears' second-ranked pass defense (161.5 ypg). The Spiders limit opposing offenses to a second-ranked 315.7 ypg. Maine continues to lead the league in red-zone offense (86.7%) followed by the Spiders at 84.4-percent.

...Be the highest ranked opponent Maine has defeated since knocking off #6 Delaware, 31-17, at home in 2011.
