Men and Women Swimming and Diving Each Take Second Place at URI Invitational

KINGSTON, Rhode Island --- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams competed and both finished second in the Harold Anderson Invitational at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, November 22st. Many school and meet records were set on Saturday. Matt England (Bangor, Maine) set three met records and was a part of one school record, Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Massachusetts) and Nicholas Sundquist (Windham, Maine) each set one meet and one school record, and Kevin Clyne (Salem, Massachusetts) was part of one school record. On the women's side, Chloe Adams (Davie, Florida) and Naja Harvey (Orono, Minnesota) each set one school record.
England, Sundquist, Clyne, and Fahey were all part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished second with a time of (3:10.80) but set a school record. England set a meet record in the 100-yard backstroke at (50.42), the 100-yard free style at (46.25), and the 200-yard backstroke at (1:56.19).
Ryan Fahey set a meet record in the 400-yard IM with a time of (4:06.84), and Nicholas Sundquist set a meet record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of (46.25). For the women, Chloe Adams touched second in the 200-yard freestyle at (1:52.23) but set a school record. Naja Harvey grabbed a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at (1:05.23), which set a school record.
Eric Gaulin (Northport, Maine) touched first in the 100-yard butterfly at (52.02) followed by Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) who finished second with a time of (52.94). Gaulin was also a part of the 200-yard medley relay, along with England, Fahey, and Sundquist, who finished first at (1:34.69). Sundquist also touched for a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of (1:41.98).
On the women's side, Emma Pontius (Portland, Maine) grabbed a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at (57.94). She also touched second in the 200-yard butterfly at (2:09.19) followed by Victoria Kingston (Bradford, Ontario) in third with a time of (2:09.34). Chloe Adams nabbed another second place finish, this time in the 100-yard freestyle at (52.84).
The University of Maine swimming and diving teams return to action December 6th at Bates. The meet is scheduled for 1:00.
