Bates Earns CFPA National Defensive Lineman of the Week Accolade; Al-Mateen Honored

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine junior defensive end Trevor Bates (Westbrook, Maine) has been named the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Defensive Lineman of the Week, as announced by the organization on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Senior safety Khari Al-Mateen (Baltimore, Md.) was also honored, earning CFPA defensive back honorable mention.
Bates had a career day for the Black Bears as he returned his third interception of the season 23-yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of a 33-20 victory over #8 Richmond. Bates added six tackles, including a sack, in Maine's victory.
Al-Mateen had two takeaways in the win as he forced a fumble on special teams before picking off a Richmond pass and returning it 42-yards. Maine's senior safety also recorded a team co-leading eight tackles on the day.
Maine returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 as it travels to take on Colonial Athletic Association newcomer Elon. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m.
