
Maine Women Compete against UNH for Senior Night

The University of Maine swimming and diving team dropped a dual meet to UNH 170-122 on Friday night at home. This was Maine's final meet at home for the 2013-2014 season.
The Black Bear women started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.), Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth,Mass.) and Katerina Mosquera-Cardi (Montreal, Canada) led the way with a 1:49.07 finish.
Dwyer finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.49). Shannon Bender (Cumberland. R.I.) touched for second in the 1000-yard freestyle at (10:45.65) followed by teammate Katie-Jean Hinckley (Prospect, Conn.) in third (10:53.66). Bender also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.42).
Harvey earned the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.69). Abby Linn (Elkhart, Ind.) grabbed a fourth place finish at 1:09.17 and Sammy Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) a fifth (1:12.22). Harvey took silver in the 200-yard breaststroke at (2:26.00).
Courtney Norman (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) nabbed a fourth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.30) followed by Kailey Dowd (Mendon, Mass.) (5:20.39) and Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario) (5:22.93).
Smrcina touched for fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.02) followed by Rebecca Bonnett (Bath, Maine) in fifth (2:19.24). Smrcina took bronze in the 100-yard butterfly (58.16). Freshman Tessa Lindsley (Bath, Maine) notched a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (55.42).
Maine finished the meet with a one, two, three in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In diving, the Black Bears swept the one meter. Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) led the way with a score of 245.10 followed by Hayli Weitz at 175.88 and Tori Leonard (Kennebunk, Maine) in third 164.55. Capossela took first in the three meter with a score of 271.20. Weitz grabbed third place with a score of 219.45.
Maine will prepare for the America East Championships on Feb 13th-16th in Worcester, Mass at the WPI Sports and Rec Center. The men continue their season on Feb 8th at Bates College, the host of the Maine Meet.
