Maine Drops to Northeastern 8-2

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped to Northeastern University 8-2 on Saturday afternoon in Boston Mass. Sophomore Natalie Robinson (Huntsville, Ontario) made her first appreance in goal.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead over the Black Bears at 1:59 into the game when Brittany Esposito scored on a pass from Tori Hickel.
Northeastern outshot Maine 13 to 8 in the first period. The Huskies were 0 for 2 on the power play.
The Huskies came out hot in the second period scoring three goals. The first was when Melissa Haganey put the puck in the net on a pass from Hayley Masters at 7:55 into the second period.
Less than a minute later Northeastern struck again when Colleen Murphy teamed up with Hayley Scamurra at 8:31 into the period.
The Black Bears answered when Abbey Cook scored an unassisted goal at 15:05 into the second, but the Huskies struck back at 17:52 when Hayley Scamurra put one by Maine goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.). The second period came to a close with Northeastern on top 4-1.
Maine outshot Northeastern 14 to 9 in the second period.
The Huskies continued their streak in the third when Chelsey Goldberg scored early in the period. Northeastern sealed their win with three more goals in the third. At 14:16 Kelly Wallace scored with an assist from Paige Savage.
The Black Bears broke up the Huskies streak when Kelsey MacSorely scored her first goal of the season on a pass from Missy Denk.
The Huskies weren't done, they added two more goals in the third period, one from Paige Savage at 16:22 and Kelly Wallace added a goal in the final seconds with an assist from Chelsey Goldberg.
Maine and Northeastern tied for shots 32-32.
Treacy made 23 saves and Robinson had 5, while Chole Desjardins stopped 30.
Maine moves to a 3-16-5 on the season, Northeastern improves to a 11-12-2.
The Black Bears return home Feb 1st and 2nd for a two game series with UNH.
