
Maine Swimming and Diving Kicks off 2014 with a Dual Meet against Bowdoin College

BRUNSWICK, Maine- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet against Bowdoin College on Saturday Jan. 18th to kick off 2014. Junior Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) earned two first place finishes and Senior Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) added two wins for the women along with Emily Buczkowski (Woolwich, Maine). On the men's side John Mcleod (Wiscasset, Maine) added a win, along with teammates Sergey Terrio (Oakand, Maine) and Connor Devers. (North Attleboro, Mass.)
Emily Buczkowski earned two first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke at (1:03.69) Shannon Bender nabbed a second place finish at (1:03.71). Buczkowski also won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of (2:16.05). Courtney Norman (Pointe-Clarie, Quebec) placed second (2:17.47) followed by Rebecca Bonnett (Bath, Maine) in third (2:22.28).
Kailey Dowd (Mendon, Mass.) paced the 200-yard butterfly with a first place finish at (2:19.28). Dwyer won the 50-yard freestyle at (24.63) followed by teammate Tessa Lindsley (Bath, Maine) in second (25.93). Dwyer took a win in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.19) and Courtney Mellish (Barrie, Ontario) touched for third place (1:04.21)
Sammy Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) helped her team with a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:37.40).
For the men, Mcleod won the 50-yard freestyle at (22.26) and teammate Matt England (Bangor, Maine) grabbed third place (23.12). Maine lead the way in the 100-yard freestyle with Terrio in first (49.85) followed by David Vittori in second (South Berwick, Maine) (49.98) and Robbie Bickford (Milford, Maine) in third (50.69).
Devers added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of (2:23.54). Devers also touched for third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.60) behind Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) who grabbed a second place finish with a time of (1:02.57).
Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) and John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.) had strong finished for the men. Dwyer earned a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.04). Carlucci touched for third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.07) and also grabbed a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.98) Fahey touched for third with a time of (4:58.25).
Senior Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) finished second in the three-meter 269.92 and grabbed second in the one-meter 256.87. Hayli Weitz finished third in the one meter 205.05.
Maine continues their season with the Dartmouth Invitational on Jan 24th.
