Michael Fransoso Named Louisville Slugger/College Baseball Insider All-American Honorable Mention

ORONO, Maine -- Former University of Maine baseball captain and shortstop Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named an All-American Honorable Mention on Friday by Louisville Slugger / CollegeBaseballInsider.com(.) The recognition is the latest in a long list of honors for Maine's record setting shortstop.
Fransoso, the 2013 America East Player of the Year, was also named to the All-Northeast Region Second Team.
Fransoso finished his senior season with a .352 average with 49 RBI and 45 runs scored. Fransoso, the Black Bear record holder in stolen bases, swiped 20 bags during the year while blasting four home runs. Maine's shortstop added 74 total hits, including 17 doubles, while racking up a .941 fielding percentage and slugging .510.
Fransoso was drafted in the 27th round of the 2013 MLB Entry Draft, 809th overall, by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is currently playing for the Jamestown Jammers of the Class A short-Season New York Penn League. Fransoso, who was named to the NYPL All-Star Team, is hitting .274 with 32 runs scored and 23 RBI. He has seven doubles to go along with 11 stolen bases.
Two other Maine Black Bears are making headlines this summer as well. Tommy Lawrence (West Haven, Conn.) pitched in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Chatham Anglers and earned the Walter Terrell Most Valuable Pitcher Award for his team. He also was named the recipient of the John Glaffey Award, given to the top player from New England playing in the Cape Cod League.
Alex Calbick (Burnaby, British Columbia) played this summer for the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast Baseball League. He led the league in hitting with a .384 batting average with 31 runs scored and 26 RBI. Calbick belted five home runs on the season.
