Connolly Selected in the 27th Round by the San Francisco Giants

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine baseball pitcher/catcher Mike Connolly (Bridgewater, Mass.) has been selected in the 27th round of the 2013 MLB Entry Draft, 822nd overall, by the San Francisco Giants.
Connolly, a junior, was named to the America East first team as a catcher and the America East second team as a pitcher. Connolly was 6-4 on the mound for the Black Bears with a 2.11 earned run average to go along with 46 strikeouts in 76.2 innings. Connolly hit .310 on the year with 54 hits, including six doubles and a home run, while driving in 14 and scoring 21 runs.
In his sophomore season, Connolly was named to the America East All-Tournament team and finished the season with a record of 5-6 on the mound with a 5.40 ERA. His five wins tied for the team-lead. Connolly struck out 52 batters in 65.0 innings pitched and also saw action in 14 games in the field where he hit .147 with seven runs scored and a pair of RBI.
In his rookie campaign, Connolly started 26 of the 39 games he appeared in while notching a .248 average with 25 hits, 10 RBI and one home run.
Connolly becomes the second Black Bear drafted in 2013 after he was selected just 13 picks after teammate Michael Fransoso.
