Fransoso Drafted in 27th Round by Pittsburgh Pirates

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine baseball shortstop Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) has been selected in the 27th round of the 2013 MLB Entry Draft, 809th overall, by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fransoso, the 2013 America East Player of the Year, batted .352 on the year with 49 RBI and 45 runs scored to go along with four home runs, 20 stolen bases and a .941 fielding percentage. Fransoso, a third team All-American, is Maine's all-time leader in stolen bases and ranks second in career runs scored.
In his junior year, Fransoso was named to the America East first team after hitting .327 for the Black Bears with a team-high 59 runs scored and 26 RBI. During his junior campaign, Fransoso belted 18 doubles and four triples to go along with five home runs and 19 stolen bases.
Fransoso was named to the America East second team his sophomore season and was also honored to both the America East All-Tournament team and the NCAA Chapel Hill All-Regional team. Fransoso batted .318 during his sophomore year with 56 hits, including five home runs and three triples with 33 RBI and 43 runs scored.
Fransoso earned America East All-Rookie team accolades during his rookie season after hitting .300 for the Black Bears with 57 runs scored and 30 RBI. Fransoso totaled 14 doubles, six triples and three home runs to go along with 16 stolen bases during his freshman year.
