Massey Named Hockey East Co-Top Scholar-Athlete for Second Straight Season

WAKEFIELD, Mass. --The University of Maine women's ice hockey team placed 13 student-athletes on the 2012-2013 All-Academic Team announced recently. In addition, Katey Massey (Waterville, Maine) was named one of two Hockey East Top Scholar-Athletes for the second straight year, after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Maine senior Chloe Tinkler (Wabush, Newfoundland) was named one of 10 "Distinguished Scholar" as she posted a 3.0 grade point average in each semester of her four varsity seasons. Maine's 13 student-athlete honored tied for second most in the league with Northeastern and Providence. New Hampshire led the way as the Wildcats had 16 student-athletes honored.
Massey was also named to the 2012–2013 Hockey East Academic All-Star Team, which honors the top seven grade point averages by position. She earned a spot on the squad as a forward.
Tinkler was honored for the fourth time in her career. Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) and Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) received honors for the third time in their career. Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) and Massey were honored for the second time in their careers.
Abbey Cook (Faripoint, N.Y.), Jessica Hall (Ingersoll, Ontario), Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minn.), Brooklyn Langlois (Steinback, Manitoba), Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario), Kelsey MacSorley (Stratford, Ontario), Tori Pasquariello (Mississauga, Ontario) and Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minn.) were recognized for the first time.
