Michael Fransoso Named Third Team All-American

ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine shortstop and America East Player of the Year Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named a Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I Third Team All-American on Thursday, May 30, 2013. Fransoso led Maine to the 2013 America East Regular season title and a berth in the America East Championship game.
Fransoso becomes the first Black Bear to be named an All-American, excluding freshman All-Americans, since Chad White was named a Second Team All-American in 1993.
Fransoso hit .352 for the Black Bears during the 2013 season with 45 runs scored and 49 RBI. He led the team in both runs scored and RBI. In addition, he hit 17 doubles and four home runs to go along with a pair of triples. He finished with a .510 slugging percentage and a .428 on-base percentage. He stole 20 bases on the season.
Fransoso wraps up a remarkable career with the Black Bears. He hit .324 during his career with 204 runs scored and 138 RBI. He broke this school record earlier this season for career stolen bases and finished with 74. He ranks second all-time in runs scored with 204 and doubles with 65. He finishes fourth all-time in career hits with 269.
In addition to being named America East Player of the Year, he earned a spot on the America East First Team in each of the past two seasons. As a sophomore, Fransoso was named to the America East Second Team, the America East All-Tournament Team and the NCAA Chapel Hill All-Region Team. Fransoso earned a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman.
