Maine Swimming and Diving Falls to Vermont.

BURLINGTON, Vermont- The University of Maine women's swimming and diving team fell to UVM 177-123 on Saturday. Maine junior Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) picked up two wins as did Maine diver Kara Capossela ( Greenwich, Conn.). Senior Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth, Mass.) added a win. Senior Shannon Bender (Cumberland, R.I.) also had strong finishes including a first place win.
Maine's 200-medley relay opened the dual meet with a (1:50.00) win, four tenths ahead of UVM.
Bender followed with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:45.28).
Harvey finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.77) . Black Bear Abby Lin (Elkhart, Ind.) nabbed third in the event (1:11.59). Harvey also added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.58).
Smrcina won the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.02) and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (58.76). Maine's Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario) scored third (1:00.80).
Freshman Black Bear Katerina Mosquera-Cardi (Montreal, Canada) touched for second place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.18).
Maine swept the diving in the one-meter diving with a one, two finish from Kara Capossela (238.90) and Hayli Weitz (222.00). The Black Bears collected a first and third finish in the three-meter. Capossela scored first (257.95) and Weitz in third (218.55).
Maine swimming and diving continues their season at Bryant on Nov. 15th.
