Power Play Powers Providence Past Women's Ice Hockey

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell 4-2 at Providence on Sunday afternoon. Maine got goals from Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minn.) and Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.) in the game.
Maine struck first, just 1:04 into the first period when Richards tallied her fourth goal of the season from Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) and Brooklyn Langlois (Steinbach, Manitoba). The Friars answered back just 2:14 later when Allison Micheletti notched her second goal of the season at 3:21.
Maine grabbed the lead back at 6:41 when Denk collected her first goal of the season with an assist from captain Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba). The Black Bears took the 2-1 lead into the first imtermission.
Corinne Buie scored a power play goal for Providence just 2:26 into the second period to knot the score at 2-2. The Friars got the eventual game-winner with a five-on-three goal by Lexi Romanchuk at 11:04 of the second period.
Providence added an insurance goal at 1:04 of the third period when Buie score the second five-on-three goal of the day for the Friars. It was herseventh goal of the season.
Providence outshot Maine 38-25 in the game. The Black Bears were 0-for-4 on the power play, while Providence converted three of its nine chances.
Meaghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.) made 34 saves in the game. She falls to 0-10-3. Sarah Bryant stopped 23 shots for the Friars and improves to 6-7-0.
