
Maine Falls to Syracuse, 97-42

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The University of Maine women's basketball team fell to Syracuse on Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome. Maine was led by Ashleigh Roberts (Wilmington, Del) with 14, Liz Wood (Calett, Va.) with 10 and Sophie Wreckstrom (Espoo, Finland) added 8. Syracuse had four players with double digit scoring.
Maine shot 31.5% from the field while Syracuse was 44.4%. Maine was out rebounded 55-33 by the Orange.
Syracuse took the lead early going on a 12-0 at 16:57 in the first.
Weckstrom hit a jumper to put Maine on the board at just over 14 minutes.
Syracuse went on another 15-0 run, until the Black Bears found Courtney Anderson (Greene, Maine) for a three pointer making the score 27-5.
Brianna Bulter was hot for Syracuse knocking down four field goals for the Orange. Syracuse shot 40.0% from the three-point line in the first half.
Syracuse continued their streak increasing their lead to 34-5 at 8:42 to go in the first. Brittney Skyes added 10 points for the Orange in the first half.
Maine moved the ball and found Weckstrom for a three to put the Black Bears in double digits at just over 6:00 minutes in the first.
Weckstrom hit another three from the corner making her 2-of-3 from the three point range in the first half.
Maine started the second half with two points from Anderson followed by a bucket by Mikaela Gustafsson (Sodertaljie, Sweden) making it 57-17 early in the second.
Syracuse continued to shoot well from the three point line in the second half shooting 36.4%
Skyes hot shooting continued for the Orange as totaled 19 points for the game.
The Black Bears return home Nov. 29th to take on UMass. Tip off is at 5pm with the game slated for the Cross Insurance Center.
